How Do We Manage Our Standard Cows?

Our cows are about as hands-off and easygoing as they come. We raise Dexter/Lowline crosses for their compact frames and efficient growth rates.

They typically follow the sheep in our pasture rotations and are 100% grass-fed. The sheep get first pick of the paddock, and the cows come in behind them to clean up what’s left—a system that works well for both livestock and pasture health.

Like our sheep, our cattle do not receive dewormers or vaccinations. They do receive mineral blocks (as opposed to the loose mineral our sheep get).
We run a bull with the herd year-round, which means calves arrive throughout the year.

All calves are born on pasture, unassisted, with no shelters or pens—just cows doing what cows do best.
Calves typically grow out for about a year (sometimes more, sometimes less) and usually weigh 400–600 pounds at that stage.
